Dolabrifera dolabrifera (Rang, 1828)

Images taken at Chowder Bay, NSW, Australia

A member of the sea hare family, Anaspidea. They are widely distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region. They have variable colourings from brown through to pink but more commonly a mottled green. The papillae are short and conical with branched apices. According to Gosliner et al, they are often found under rocks in areas dominated by coralline algae, feeding on Cyanobacteria and/or diatoms. I have seen them at Chowder Bay on kelp or occasionally paddle grass around the pier structure.
